American Music Awards Fashion Recap

Hey everybody! Nastasia the Inaword Intern here. I'm home for Thanksgiving break and Elle asked me to cover the American Music Awards. Fun! The line up for the AMAs was exciting, except that the actual performances just weren't fulfilling. As for the fashions, there were some knock outs and there were some knock downs. Let's take a look...

HUGE TREND: Metallic beading. Carrie-Ann Inaba...

Taylor Swift...

...and Miley Cyrus were just some of the starlets that showed up wearing the popular style. Miley pulled it off best. I loved the sheer black fabric over the beading and the detailing of the belt.

The worst to take a crack at it: Christina Aguilera. Her body is sick for just having had a baby but her hair was a hot mess of a wig and her dress had too much going on.

I was also not too happy with Jordin Sparks. The yellow is too harsh and I think the red streaking in her hair has been a tad overworked. If she's trying to make this her "thing," she should rethink it.

Oh, Toccara. This Stepford Wives look is so not her. She should stick to being the vixen; it fits her attitude, her figure and her image. If she's trying to cross over, again she should rethink it.

On the other hand, Queen Latifah was looking good. Her make-up and hair were on point. As far as her dress, it was a beautiful silhouette on her but the fabric was no bueno. Overall though, she looked great.

Alicia Keys also looked amazing. This jewel color has been in for a while and the details were cute but the Dubai head piece was not a favorite of mine. It was interesting and out of the box but it didn't send me over the top.

Rihanna had a very natural look; her makeup was so soft and complimented the color and ruffles within her dress. It was refreshing to see her so girlie chic; and the satin gloves were an unexpected accessory that will probably end up catching on.

Nicole Sherzinger was stunning in a Christian Siriano original. I love the lavender highlighted in the midst of the gray. The ruffled bubble bottom and the sweetheart silhouette fits her well. I love this dress, I love the designer and I can't wait until he's EVERYWHERE on the runway.

Our usual screw up was in the building. T-Pain wore yet another ugly and unnecessary top hat and more hideousness beneath it.

Steven Tyler is stuck in the Aerosmith days of yore...but what can we expect.

I just thought I'd throw in this picture of Three Six Mafia just because of his shirt...why?

But the most surprising, the most disappointing and the worst dressed (just because he should know better) is Kanye West. Everybody is coming at him for saying that he was giving his award to Lil Wayne; but it's true, Graduation was hot LAST YEAR and Wayne had it this year. What they should be talking about is why oh why he had on a jacket fit for a newborn, an army fatigue hat that didn't go (and come on, that print is so over) and a foxtail in his pocket. Like, really?

Chris Brown looked cute as usual. His semi-formal look is always perfect on him. Sweater vests on guys are so dope right now. The leather jacket is a Fall classic. However, I wasn't feeling the bowtie and the sunglasses too much. It felt a little forced.

What's always nice is a dude in a suit! Ne-Yo did his thing in brown mixed with a deep gray. The two shades don't seem like they compliment each other but it looked really nice, making this a risk that was worth taking. The scarf was a nice thrown in accessory and of course his ever-loving hair line cover! He loves him some hats.

Akon is a little late with his skinny tie but while it's a trend that's dwindling...it's still in! It was great to see him in a suit because I feel as if he'd be one to wear a white tee, jeans, uptowns, a chain, and probably even a fitted.

The Jonas Brothers were in coordinated Ralph Lauren. They looked comfy, even suited up. They were definitely some of my favorites!

Overall, I wasn't overly excited or overly disappointed by the fashion this year. What did you think?

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards Gala

On Monday night in New York, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund had it's fifth annual gala, designer Alexander Wang took top honors (winning $200,000 and a year's worth of mentoring), and the fashionistas were out to celebrate it all.

Charlize Theron is definitely deserving of my top honors for the night, after making a chic arrival in black strapless Christian Dior Fall 2008 Couture with sequin draping and a sheer skirt. Loving the studded sandals too!

I almost spit out my Hot Toddy when I came across this picture. One moment I'm enjoying the lusciousness of Charlize in this dress and all of a sudden a mystery elf appears. So jarring! But no worries, punkins, it's just John Galliano (of Dior, darling) who was there as the keynote speaker of the event. Yes, he dresses like this all the time and no, that's no excuse.

Everyone's model of the moment, Agyness Deyn, showed up in a suit, hat, bra and ferocious red platforms by Alejandro Ingelmo.

Hot girl Chanel Iman chose a more masculine tailored suit from the Daughters by Obedient Sons Fall 2008 Collection. The black fur stole nicely completes her look.

Tennis goddess Maria Sharapova rocked a chocolate brown mini dress (that almost looks like a tennis dress) and strappy sandals.

Juliette Lewis shined in a belted, silver-sequined 3.1 Phillip Lim jumpsuit, which I would totally love to own. I'd wear it everywhere until it fell apart at the seams and then I'd turn it into the gayest throw pillow ever.

Jennifer Morrison (I don't know who she is either) chose a black and white Giambattista Valli Spring 2009 princess dress. Cute.

Aha! Blake Lively! I know her! But what praytell is she wearing? I'm disappointed. All the fabulous fashion at her fingertips and she chooses an unflattering Vena Cava Fall 2007 maxi dress. You live, you learn.

Fashion designer Tory Burch posed in a gold and black velvet YSL Fall 2008 dress and grey clutch. Hmmm, something here is not quite right. And I think it's the dress. It seems to be overshadowing her. Darling, never let a dress wear you!

Erin Fetherson wore a floral maxi dress from her own Fall 2008 collection. The boots are not working for me. Matter of fact, neither is the dress.

Hey Vera! Ms. Wang wore her signature bare face, a beautifully detailed dress and navy shrug. I like.

The loveable Diane von Furstenberg wore a sequined original from her own Fall 2008 collection, featuring a fun feathered hem.

Model Coco Rocha made her black Gucci Resort 2009 dress look even more ethnic by accessorizing with a gold turban.

Anna, Anna, Fabulous Anna, Anna Wintour, she's so outrageous! Here she is wearing a printed top and skirt from the Marni Spring 2009 collection. Nice tights. Her daughter, Bee Schaffer looks young and fresh in a Thakoon Spring 2009 frock and nude sandals.

Mr. Vogue himself, Andre Leon Talley, arrived in his signature ALT style. Would you expect anything less?

Model Doutzen Kroes wore one of Herve Leger's practically legendary banded dresses with a stunning necklace.

Liya Kebede looks beat. Yikes, what happened, boo?

Upgrade?

This weekend, mini mogul Tyra Banks won her first Daytime Emmy while wearing this appealing Georges Chakra gown.

Although she's looking a tad wax-figure-esque and her too blond lacefront is washing her out, I would have to say that this is a major upgrade from last year's tumor-iffic debacle. Lest we never forget:

This dress actually inspired one of my first InawordFUG posts. Check it out here...InawordFUG: Way Too Much Fabric Edition. Classic!

Do you agree that Tyra's 2008 Emmy look is a style upgrade?

Elle Style Awards

In news from across the pond, Kylie Minogue, Keira Knightley and Kate Hudson took top honours at the Elle Style Awards last night in Notting Hill, West London. Keira, brooding in black, won the award for Best Actress, while Kylie, wearing a grecian Dolce & Gabbana gown, was named Woman of the Year. Kate Hudson was crowned Elle Style Icon for her “distinctive and kooky” fashion sense. More pics below...

Naomi kept it simple in a gold strapless mini

Model du jour Agyness Deyn rocked a hot pink coat and textured tights (pictured with her BFF Henry Holland)

Lily Allen looked sweet in her 50s inspired floral dress, but what's going on with her hair?

Brit It Girl Alexa Chung showcased her individual style in a pink Luella prom dress with black booties

BET Honors 2008

Li Li, are you serious with that hair?

Soooo, the BET Honors were taped Saturday night, and all in all the red carpet flics really failed to impress. Nothing was over-the-top good, and nothing was over-the-top bad. In a word...meh.
Suprisingly, I like Tyra's feathered dress...but as interesting as it is, she still bores me.
Aw Viv, you try so hard. I like the color of the gown but you should have turned the volume down on that hair.

Keyshia's hideous tattoo is stealing the spotlight here.

I heart Jilly from Philly but is that an afro bang?

Kerry's one-shoulder gown is right on trend but it makes her appear even shorter.

Yikes, what happened here? Is it just me?
