An Ode to Sequin

Being that it's New Year's Eve (white girl woooo!) there's really no better time for me to celebrate sequin. Shimmery, shiny, show-stopping sequin! The love affair began when I purchased a black sequin beret (that still makes me giggle when I put it on) and quickly spiraled out of control. I tried at some point last year to stop buying articles of clothing with some sort of sequin but that soon became unworkable. Cute sequined items were everywhere in 2008 and will be even hotter in 2009! Perfect for parties, they add so much texture and sparkle...what's not to love? Just remember, sequins are not about subtlety...wear with confidence! Here are some affordable items to try out for yourself.

Fabulosity in Motion

The January 2009 issue of Vogue is officially a collector's edition. Get past the "meh" cover (I'm just not into Anne Hathaway) and feast your eyes on two of the hottest black models in the business, Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn, together in a cacophony of couture! I can't and I will not with these two! You really can't ask for much more. The looks are straight-off-the-runway and both Jourdan and Chanel are working them like the rent is due. I am kinda giving Chanel's side molar the side eye though...when she opens her mouth wide enough, there is a man down situation. No matter though! She is absolutely fabulous and Miss Iman was super sweet when we met backstage at Tibi during Fashion Week. But I digress. Here they are in all their glory...

La la love!

City Blues

A street once full of life, and
a whole lot of activities
on the store fronts with busy sidewalks
and pedestrians excited sightseeing
and window shopping;
bargaining for items in a bouyant economy
economy takes a downturn
and low turnout of events
lay-offs a commonplace, and
traders lose points
market slows down,
customers gone and stores emptied
going out of business on every booth
customers vacate the sidewalks
on a dead economy

Loss of a Legend: Eartha Kitt

Groundbreaking entertainer, legendary sex kitten and triple-threat talent, Eartha Kitt, succumbed to colon cancer on Christmas Day. Not only was she absolutely fearless, she was the very definition of glamour, darling. The world is much less fabulous without her in it. We'll miss you, Ms. Kitt!
