Since last November when Yar’Adua was flown to Saudi Arabia for treatment, Tanimu’s influence has grown enough to have drowned that of Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, to whom the President did not officially hand over. Tanimu has been effectively assisted by Turai, Yar’Adua’s wife; Yusuf Tilde, Yar’Adua’s Chief Security Officer; and Sayyadi Abba Ruma, Agriculture Minister; Abba Aji, Special Adviser to Yar’Adua on National Assembly Matters; Yayale Ahmed, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Michael Aondoakaa, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. Tanimu, Turai, Tilde and Abba Ruma are reckoned to be the only government functionaries who have been in touch with Yar’Adua since the President left Nigeria. The EFCC said that Ibori was only discharged by the court and not acquitted, revealing that the former governor refused to take a plea in the case preferred against him in Kaduna, which later referred to Asaba, Delta State capital. The statement said: “In view of the attention the judgment of Justice Marcel Awokulehin of the Asaba Federal High Court has attracted globally, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC wishes to state the following facts regarding the decision of the court to quash all the 170 count charge against a former governor of Delta State, Mr. James Onanefe Ibori and others.
