Italian Vogue's Black Barbie Issue

La Fashion Bomb (via Blog Crazy Sexy Techie Cool) is reporting that as a follow up to last summer's groundbreaking all-black Vogue Italia, the fashion rag has dedicate its July issue to the iconic black Barbie.

Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Italian Vogue explains, “Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate [this] issue to Black Barbie.”

Michelle Obama covers Vogue!

It's the First Lady in fuchsia! Michelle Obama looks long, lean, and serene in her cover photo for the March issue of Fashion Bible, Vogue darling. Shot by Annie Liebovitz at the Hay Adams Hotel in D.C., Michelle is pictured in another gown by Jason Wu, who designed her inaugural ball gown.

The legendary Andre Leon Talley penned the cover story, which details all her fashion-related thoughts and musings. Inside, Mrs. O wears a Narciso Rodriguez dress while holding an old-fashioned phone.

When talking about the Michelle Obama interview and cover, Vogue head bish Anna Wintour said, "Change was the clarion call of Barack Obama's election campaign, though I don't think any of us at Vogue initially realized that would include the difference that was going to be made by First Lady Michelle Obama's wardrobe."

Blake Lively covers Vogue, LeBron covers GQ

For its February cover, the Fashion Bible (Vogue) made the controversial choice to feature Gossip Girl starlet, Blake Lively. Lucky bish! Vogue spokesman Patrick O’Connell, explained the choice by saying, “She’s the girl of the moment who also has a hit show that people watch as much for the fashion as for the show itself.”

Not everyone is as excited about it as Patrick. There are mumblings that Vogue is “stooping” to put an up and comer like Blake in such a prestigious position, while some guess that they are doing whatever they can to stay relevant amidst the folding of many magazines in recent months.

I can say that Blake looks absolutely ravishing on the cover...I hardly recognized her. According to Anna Wintour, they opted to give Blake “a makeover that transformed the sporty all-American girl into a polished bombshell.” Well done. I love the styling of this shoot! The cuff on the cover is divine, and I'm also feeling the retro vibe of both the jumpsuit and the bathing suit.

In other news, LeBron James is looking all kinds of yummy on the cover of February's GQ. He's only 24? My goodness, give him a few more years to marinate and he will be fully seasoned and ready for devouring! Posing in a slate grey suit, pink shirt and grey tie, this was LeBron's first cover for GQ. He was also the first black male to ever appear on the cover of Vogue. Take that, Blake Lively!

First Look! The Vogue Italia "Black Issue"

Excitement! The first photos from the upcoming "Black Issue" of Vogue Italia have arrived! The cover is actually a four-photo foldout, featuring model pros Liya Kebede and Naomi Campbell along with newbies Jourdan Dunn and Sessilee Lopez. Fire! The issue boasts 100 pages of brown beauty, including Alek Wek (hell yes), Alva Chin (classic), Gail O'Neil (oh so 80's), Iman (but of course, darling), Kiara Kabukuru (love her for Covergirl), Karen Alexander (yup gorgeous), Tyra Banks (duh), Veronica Webb (yay), Yasmin Warsame (sure why not), Pat Cleveland (legendary), Arlenis Sosa Pena (if you read the blog, you already knew), Chanel Iman (fierce) and Toccara Jones (woo hoo! score one for the full size models! you better work Toccara!). Hmm...where's Beverly Peele? Or Beverly Johnson? Let's hope they show up in there somewhere!

Okay, Steven Meisel is a genius. And Sessilee Lopez very clearly killed this shoot. She is absolutely stunning! No wonder she landed one of the coveted covers. The issue hits European newsstands next Thursday and will land in the U.S. very soon after. I'll let you know more details as they come in...can't wait!

Vogue or Sports Illustrated?

What's really going on with the cover of April's Vogue? I get that it's the "Shape Issue" and they are pairing models with athletes, but hello? LeBron James looks damn good in a suit. We can see him looking like this every night on the basketball court. This pic also does not play up Gisele's supreme hotness. I don't get it. Why pair the green dress with the red font? So many questions...I need answers, Anna Wintour!

Some people aren't feeling it for even deeper reasons, saying that it perpetuates the stereotype of a lily white Jane hanging on to a wild black Tarzan. Interesting indeed.
