Valentino: The Last Emperor

Greetings my fellow fashion fiends! Looking to kill a few hours this weekend? Make it your business to check out Valentino: The Last Emperor, a behind-the-scenes look at the world of haute couture through the eyes of the legendary Valentino Garavani. The film follows Valentino and his longtime partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, as they confront the closing act of a nearly 50-year career in the glamorous and competitive world of fashion.

Matt Tyrnauer, producer and director, describes the film as "one explosion after the other. Valentino is very impatient. He’s a Taurus. He loves the drama. There are divo moments and there are tantrums, and a lot of them are directed at the camera. It’s sort of like a cross between a hurricane and a cyclone."

Besides documenting Valentino's life and career, the film further explores the larger issues of art versus commerce, and explores the uniquely loving relationship between Valentino and Giammetti. Check out the sneak previews below, then go see it for yourself!

3. "People don't want to admit they pose, but how you sit is important. Never plop down. Lower yourself onto a sofa at a slight diagonal. Of course it's deliberate, but it works!"

4. "You can't be sexy without a beautiful smile (but never show your gums) or shining, healthy hair," says the designer. "Don't trust Mother Nature. She's too busy."

5. "The way you speak can bewitch. Low, slowly, and always looking the listener right in the eye. And nothing matters more than how you say hello and goodbye."
