Fashion 411: Smock Dresses

The smock dress, a hugely popular style this season, is a cute, fun and flirty way to get dressed. Being somewhat shapeless, it is easy to assume that such a dress would always be very figure-flattering. So wrong. Unfortunately, for those of us who are beyond a size 2, smocks can add volume in all the wrong places.

Solution? Lucky Magazine's August issue offers up three great suggestions, any of which will instantly sleeken your look, while maintaining the easy breezy feel.

1. Brooch It

To give you a sexy, nipped-in waist, gather a handful of fabric in the front and fasten it with a lightweight, antique-y pin.

2. Add a Vest

To sleeken the volume up top, go for a shrunken vest that hits just at your rib cage. The effect is feminine and a bit bohemian.

3. Belt It

Rein in the floaty material and get a quietly punky twist with a thin double-wrap belt, slung low on your hips.

Genius!
