The Olympics Go Preppy

All my Sporty Spices on the U.S. Olympic team betta work the Olympic Village like its a runway at this summer's 2008 Beijing Olympic games. Classic American sportswear brand, Polo Ralph Lauren, has just been named the official outfitter for the U.S. team.

Polo replaced Canadian apparel company, Roots, which had outfitted the U.S. team for the last three Olympic Games. Bummer for them. Roots envisioned a "yoga-inspired, technical, green product" for the Beijing games. Clearly, the Olympic Committee was not pumped about it.

Finding inspiration in the 1981 film,"Chariots of Fire," which is about a group of British athletes competing in the 1924 Paris Olympics, the Olympic Committee decided to go with a more classic, formal look. Polo responded by designing V-neck sweaters, ties, cargo pants, Polo mesh shirts with "Beijing" written in Chinese splashed across the front and of course, plenty of garments with Polo ponies.

The new outfits will be unveiled at the Opening Ceremonies on August 8. Looking at the sneak peek above, it's safe to say: upgrade!
