Red Carpet Recap: The Oscars 2009

Pale really is the new black! It started at the Golden Globes, which saw no less than thirteen actresses wearing long, light-colored dresses on the red carpet. The 2009 Academy Awards followed a similar color story, with the best example by far being Sarah Jessica Parker in what she described as a "barely mint" gown by Christian Dior Couture. I simultaneously gasped and clutched my pearls when I spotted SJP in this gorgeous confection. Her hair is the perfect shade of chestnut, her rack looks amaaazing, and the light layers of tulle cinched with a swirling, sparkly belted corset are giving me "fierce fairy tale princess." Yes, SJP, this will do.

Taraji P. Henson looked happy and beautiful in an airy, ivory Roberto Cavalli gown. Great hair too...she made me want to start growing mine out!

Evan Rachel Wood also went pale in an Elie Saab Spring 2009 Couture gown that matched her skin color a little too well. She's fading into the background with this one.

Best Actress nominee Anne Hathaway chose a glittering Armani Prive Spring 2009 gown that was dripping with paillettes.

Penelope Cruz won for Best Supporting Actress in this vintage Pierre Balmain Haute Couture gown. I thought she looked fantastic on camera.

Jessica Biel appeared on the carpet in this satin Prada gown with inexplicable billowed material. Just not flattering, darling.

On the other hand, Marisa Tomei's one-shouldered Versace Atelier gown had the most beautiful detailing in the front and fit her like a dream.

Red ruled the red carpet last year, and this year a bunch of starlets chose the classic color. Amy Adams wore this Carolina Herrera strapless gown, but I couldn't cosign either the dress or the Candy Land necklace by Fred Leighton.

Amanda Seyfried chose a Valentino Spring 2009 Couture gown with a huge bow.

Heidi Klum was in red (again), this time by Roland Mouret and accented by the sickest jewelry. Those bangles alone...

Freida Pinto looked beautiful as usual in John Galliano Spring 2009.

Kate Winslet looked nice but kind of tame in a grey YSL Atelier one-shouldered gown. Love the blond highlights though.

Angelina arrived in black (of course) Elie Saab. The green Lorraine Schwartz earrings definitely provided a much needed punch of color.

Natalie Portman stood out in a pink Rodarte chiffon strapless gown...I like.

Alicia Keys wore a similarly colored pink/lilac gown but I was disappointed and distracted by her lacefront.

Beyonce can do no wrong in my eyes but may I just suggest that she stop wearing House of Dereon Couture. As a matter of fact, she should stop making it altogether. The good news is that she looked amazing in terms of her minimal hair, makeup and jewelry.

Meryl Streep walked the carpet in an Alberta Ferretti gown. She's Meryl so she can get away with this.

Tilda Swinton, who's clothing I love to hate, chose a Lanvin Pre-Fall 2009 blouse and evening skirt with gathered detailing. Interesting.

Couture is wasted on this girl. I would say that Miley Cyrus wore a Zuhair Murad Spring 2009 Couture gown, but it seems the gown actually wore her. Not a fan.

Sofia Loren...why?

The Look for Less

Sarah Jessica Parker has been spotted at events around the world in her favorite accessory of the moment, two-tone metallic Balenciaga pumps with spike metal heels. Hot. Want the look but not the price tag?

Newport News is selling their two-tone Metallic Cap Pump for $25! I love a shoe that is both recession-proof and can take you from day to night with ease. Give them a spin and give SJP a run for her money.

Fashion Recap: 2008 MTV Movie Awards

The MTV Movie Awards popped off last night at Universal Studios in La La Land, and the celebs were out to sashay the gold carpet in style. Let the judgment commence! First, I thought Paris looked quite fetch. The hair, the makeup and the dress are old school glam but at the same time, just bubblegum enough to be quintessential Paris.

Perfection! Love the turtleneck mini with daring white ankle boots. Puh-leeze tell me that you all went to see SATC this weekend! In a word...amaaazing. I laughed, I cried, I drooled over all the delicious fashion...definitely a must see.

Our favorite fug kept it simple in an LBD. A little sun wouldn't hurt but she's looking good with the longer hair!

Ew. I'm just not into LL. There's just something so...vulgar about her. Sorry boo.

Megan Fox's gorgeousness was almost enough to distract me from the fact that her dress, clutch and shoes are all working against each other. What's up with that?

I think LC's dress is my favorite. It hugs her curves and shows just enough skin.

Looks like Audrina "Dead Eyes" Patridge is trying out bangs. Good for her.

Heidi is perfecting her porn star look in a Herve Leger bandage dress.

This dress is not the most flattering on Whitney, from this angle she looks majorly boxy.

Anne Hathaway chose a super sophisticated one-shouldered dress that is oh so diva-esque.

Love her! Charlize is working the corset, pencil leg pants and gladiator heels like an Amazonian goddess.

I understand she's not a girly girl, but Ellen Page should take some style notes from Charlize re: wearing pants to an event.

I really like this look on Jennifer Hudson...very cute. And yes, that's her bra.

Liv Tyler is pretty in pink in a ruched dress with black pumps.

Who's your fave?

The Shoot I've Been Waiting For

YES!!! The stunningly dramatical Carrie and Big shoot by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue has arrived! The dreamy shoot imagines the onscreen duo's honeymoon. I love these pics more than life. Okay not really. But I do love them more than Reese's 100 Calorie Bars. And that is saying a LOT. The June 2008 issue of Vogue hits U.S. news stands tomorrow.

Traveling in style! SJP is wearing the quintessential classic Chanel bouclé suit, Lanvin hat, Philip Crangi for Vera Wang cuff and Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière pumps. The man should always handle the Louis luggage.

Awww! Snuggling in a seafoam green Nina Ricci silk-satin dress and shoes.

A lil PDA in an amazing Alexander McQueen peacock lace-and-tulle dress. I'm a lil distracted by the naked man. Hard times.

Big looks as if he wants to rip that Narciso Rodriguez wool dress right off her! Love the sexy detail of the banded back and exposed zipper.

If ever I was caught up in a sex tape scandal (fingers crossed!) I think I'd want to be in a Marchesa satin-organza dress.

They didn't quite make it into the opera: Carrie in a Versace chiffon dress.

Big plays protector against the paps while Carrie maneuvers her Dolce & Gabbana gown.

The covershot: golden girl in Versace.
