Are you Fabulous, Black and Single?

Hey lovebugs! If you're living the FABS life...this event is for you! Info below... xo, Elle

Are you living the F.A.B.S. Life?

A generation of F.A.B.S.... they are the fearless, single women with a "DO ME" mantra that rivals any power couple. They're smart, successful, and are making it happen with ambitious abandon, living their American dream. They may not have chosen to be F.A.B.S. in the City, but they're making it work -- for now. Most are ready for a relationship and some are actively dating, but Mr. Right has not shown up, so it's Mr. Right Now tonight. (Yawn)

This Sunday, we invite you to participate in a raw dialogue about the raging epidemic that is reportedly sweeping our community. It's on the tip of every glam girl's tongue and happens to be the volatile topic that dominates the heated convo over Friday night martinis and Saturday evening Merlot.

We've all heard the stats: New York area single women outnumber single men by more than 210,000. And it's no secret that Manhattan is well known to have a 10 to 1 ratio of single women to men. The stats become more disparaging when we take stock of our own communities, at our own family members and at our very dearest besties - a Generation of F.A.B.S.: Fabulous And Black and Single. According to a 2005 census survey, 30% of black women are living with a spouse, as compared to 49% who are Hispanic, 55% White and 60% Asian.

With 70% African American women single, Oprah said the only solution is to broaden our dating pool. "Everybody is waiting for a certain cut of meat. But the cut's not available. Look at the numbers. The numbers don't play but every black woman thinks the numbers are gonna change, that the numbers don't apply to her."

Does the media help or hurt this paralyzing phenomenon? Are we ladder-climbing and corporate fast-tracking our way out of a healthy, monogamous relationship with Mr. Tall, Dark, Handsome and Compatible? Do we really have viable options, or are we destined to die alone with our cat, only to be found after he's already eaten off half our face? (Yes, we saw that episode too.) Is this your plight? Are you claiming it, attacking it... are you fighting and winning the F.A.B.S. Life fight?
